NFL Draft Sleepers-Quarterback
The NFL Draft is set to take place from April 23-25, with the first round starting on Thursday. We know the big names that have been circulating for weeks. Chase Young, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Isaiah Simmons. But what about the players the public isn't hearing about? What about guys that could be steals in the early, mid and late-rounds? Let's take a look at five sleepers at each position starting with quarterback.
Quarterbacks
1)Jordan Love, Utah, draft projection: first round
Comments: Love has a chance to be special. He could go anywhere from the top 10 to late first round. Love has the size at 6-4, 225, the arm and athleticism to be an elite quarterback. The main questions are about his accuracy and decision-making. But if you're an NFL team that has a quality quarterback coach that can work on his mechanics, he's going to be a star just as he showed in his 2018 season at Utah.
2)Jalen Hurts, Alabama, draft projection:3-4 rounds
Comments: Hurts is built like a running back at 6-1, 222. He was known as a runner, but became a passer at Oklahoma, throwing for 3,851 yards with 32 TDs and eight picks. Hurts still has work to do as a pocket passer, but if a team wants to use him the way Baltimore used Lamar Jackson this year (not quite as fast), Hurts can do some things to extend plays and make yardage as a runner.
3)Anthony Gordon, Washington State, draft projection: 4-5 rounds
Comments: Gordon is 6-2, 205 and played in the Air Raid offense for Mike Leach at Washington State. Gordon threw for 48 TDs and 5,579 yards in his only season as a starter. Not everybody is going to be a star, but Gordon is an intriguing guy, who could be a steal in the late rounds. Has the athleticism and the arm to take a chance on.
4)Mason Fine, North Texas, draft projection: FA
Comments: Fine probably won't get drafted because he's 5-11, 190 pounds. How big is Gardner Minshew? Not much bigger. Threw for 29 TDs and just nine picks for 3,088 yards in his senior season. Not much of a runner, but didn't have to at North Texas. If he was 6-2, he'd be drafted in the middle rounds.
5)Tom Flacco, Towson, draft projection: FA
Comments: An FCS quarterback just like his brother Joe, who finished his career at Delaware. Started his career at Western Michigan. Unlike Joe, Tom is a very good athlete, who also played baseball at Towson. Extends plays, but only around 6-0, 210. Doesn't have the arm of his brother, but the athleticism is worth a look that he can be either a Taysom Hill, a solid backup or slot receiver like former Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman. Threw for over 6,000 yards and scored 50 TDs in two years at Towson.
