2024 NFL Winners and Losers in the Offseason

We’re getting close to the start of training camps and there still could be a few moves made. But most of the key trades and free agent pickups have already occurred. Let’s take a look at the teams who fared well and others who didn’t in NFL Free Agency and trades in the 2024 offseason.

Winners

Chicago Bears:

Chicago had the number one pick thanks to a shrewd move last season, which allowed them to get Carolina’s first-round pick, which turned into QB Caleb Williams GM Ryan Poles also traded for WR Keenan Allen and added TE Gerald Everett in free agency. Williams will have Allen, D.J. Moore and rookie Rome Odunze at receiver. That’s a pretty strong group of receivers to give a rookie quarterback.

Houston Texans:

The Texans didn’t need a lot, but to pick up the talented WR Stefon Diggs was a huge move for a young QB in C.J. Stroud. They also added RB Joe Mixon to bolster the running attack and EDGE Danielle Hunter (16.5 sacks) to play alongside Will Anderson. DL Denico Autry (28.5 sacks in 3 seasons) was brought in to bring pressure up the middle. Their biggest loss was DE Jonathan Greenard and they replaced him with a better player. They also replaced RB Devin Singletary with Mixon and that was an upgrade.

Green Bay Packers:

Green Bay is notorious for not making a lot of moves in free agency. But the Packers were busy adding RB Josh Jacobs from the Raiders to replace Aaron Jones. They also added safety Xavier McKinney, the former NY Giant, to lead the secondary. Other than Jones, they didn’t lose a ton in free agency as OL David Bakhtiari and Jon Runyan were near the finish line of their careers.

Losers

Baltimore Ravens:

It was a tough offseason for Baltimore, because they lost DC Mike McDonald, who took the head job in Seattle. They are now thin on the offensive line with starters Morgan Moses, Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson all signing elsewhere. They also lost ILB Patrick Queen to the rival Steelers and OLG Jadeveon Clowney (9.5 sacks) in free agency. They did sign RB Derrick Henry, but will need to rely on youngsters and rookies to replace most of the losses, barring some late free agency pickups before training camp (probable).

Buffalos Bills:

Buffalo had one of the toughest losses in the offseason when they dealt WR Stefon Diggs to Houston and also lost No. 2 WR Gabe Davis in free agency. The Bills also will have two new safeties with Pro Bowler Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer both gone. They also had to let go of CB Tre’Davious White and C Mitch Morse due to financial reasons. WR Curtis Samuel was a nice pickup if he can remain healthy, but that’s a lot to lose in one offseason with Miami and the NY Jets breathing down their necks in the AFC East.

Dallas Cowboys:

Dallas brought in just one key player in LB Erick Kenricks and brought back RB Ezekiel Elliott. RB Tony Pollard, who had over 1,000 yards last season is gone along with WR Michael Gallup, CB Stephon Gilmore and LT Tyron Smith. They also lost C Tyler Biadasz, DE Doran Armstrong, DE Dante Fowler and CB Noah Igbinoghene to Washington.
