Could Alabama Lose Both Tagovailoa’s In One Year?

The Alabama Crimson Tide just said goodbye to Tua Tagovailoa after he played three seasons with the Tide. The last two were as a starter. Tua is now in the NFL after being taken as the 5th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the draft a few weeks ago. He was not the only Tagovailoa on the roster, as his younger brother Taulia was also on the team last year. The Tide may now go from having two Tagovailoas on the roster to having none as the younger brother has now chosen to enter the transfer portal.

Taulia was apart of the 2019 recruiting class but it doesn’t seem like there is a spot for him on the roster as the QB situation is stacked for the Tide. Alabama has Mac Jones and Bryce Young, who is a five-star recruit. Jones did play in 11 games last year and threw for 1503 yards with 14 TDs and just three INTs in his time out there. He got the start in their bowl game against Michigan and threw for 327 yards with three TDs and no INTs in the 35-16 Alabama win.

Jones will be pushed for the starting spot by Young, who was rated as the 2nd best player in the nation overall by Rivals.com. He is also the best QB in the nation to come out and the top player from the state of California. He was recruited by 28 teams overall and chose Alabama, which is nothing new for Nick Saban, who always seems to get the cream of the crop.

Now you can see why the younger Tagovailoa wants to enter the transfer portal. After his older brother got hurt last year, Taulia did end the season as the number two QB on the roster and threw for 100 yards with one TD and no INTs on nine-of-12 passing. He was a four-star recruit in his own right and rated as the 9th best dual-threat QB in the 2019 class by Rivals.com. The younger Tags played high school ball at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama and he was the first HS player in the state to throw for 400+ yards in a game four times in his career. He also led his school to the 2018 state title.

Taulia is a player with enormous talent and playing under his older brother for a year should give him some valuable experience moving forward. There are plenty of teams around the nation who would love to have him. Stay tuned as I will keep you posted on where he winds up.
