Free Picks For Gulfstream Park - 7/24/20

Race 3 - Maiden Special Weight (Purse -$65,000)

Eleven 2-year-old males will go one mile on the turf. While eight of the runners have at least one race in hand, most are pretty green in terms of life race. But I still expect this to be a highly competitive race. #5 Bourre Trick is coming off of a very good debut where the Kentucky colt finished fourth in a five-furlong meet despite bumping with two different foes in the early going. The son of 2010 Kentucky Derby champion Super Saver is led by trainer Wesley Ward, whose male 2-year-old’s have won 18% of their races on the turf and finished in the top 3 45% of the time. #9 Predicament should be right alongside Bourre Trick at the wire. The Kentucky gelding, a brother of two-time graded stakes winner Horologist, is also stretching out after closing well to take second place in a five-furlong turf meet at this level in his debut. #6 Castle King is coming off a so-so performance as he finished fourth, one and three-fourth lengths behind Predicament, in his debut. #3 Congrats Again, who has cashed in three of his four events, along with #2 Weight of Glory is also worth considering in exotic bets.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #5, #9. I also will also take a value show bet on #6 and #3

Race 7 - Allowance Optional Claiming $62,500 (Purse - $48,000)

Six 4-to-5-year-old fillies and mares are slated to go one mile on the turf in what should be an excellent race. Meanwhile, Crumb Bun and Remarkable Soul are main track only entrants. I believe that the race will come down between #4 Midnight Soiree and #6 Great Sister Diane Great Sister Diane has not gotten many results recently, but she has run very well on the stakes circuit. The 4-year-old filly has a really good early speed and has three wins on the turf. Great Sister Diane used a strong finish the last time out to edge out Midnight Soiree for a place in the Breeze Stakes earlier this month. Midnight Soiree, essentially morning line co-favorites with Great Sister Diane, also has run well in her recent past outings -- cashing in five of her last seven outings. The 5-year-old Florida mare has finished in the money in each of her last four appearances against optional claimers and has also done so in six of her 12 career attempts on the turf with five of those being second or third-place finishes. #3 Rosa Star followed up two second-place finishes against $20,000 and $30,000 claimers with a strong effort in the Breeze Stakes where she barely missed third place by a neck.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #4, #6.

Race 8 - Allowance Optional Claiming $16,000 (Purse - $47,000)

Seven horses will go one mile on the dirt in what should be a quality race. #7 R U Lucky has been a winner, thus far, as he has won four of eight events in two years. R U Lucky is coming off a third-place finish at this level and distance -- his first time running a mile -- as he moved up a couple of spots down the stretch. While the 3-year-old colt is not extremely fast expect jockey Edgar Zayas to have him close to the front of the pack for most of the race. #2 First and Three is dropping down in class after being outrun throughout, and finishing sixth, in a seven-furlong event against $30,000 claimers on June 20. The 4-year-old son of First Dude has cashed in six of his eight allowance optional claiming events and 11 of 18 starts overall. I expect #3 So Long Chuck and #6 Ingreido to battle for third. So Long Chuck is the fastest horse in the field and runs well at this distance, garnering three victories. So Long Chuck has improved a position in each of his 2020 races, culminating with a victory the last time out against $8,000 claimers the last time out. #6 Ingreido has shown improvement in each of his last three outings and is coming off a third-place at this level and distance on June 14.

Picks: I like a win bet on the #7. I also like an exacta box of #7, #2.
