LGD vs. Victory Five (V5) Preview & Prediction - Free 6/13 LPL Betting Picks

Don’t look now, but that happens to be a 2-0 Victory Five team atop the LPL Summer standings, a team just removed of a victory-less 0-16 Spring Split. With a partial roster makeover in the offseason, V5 has been a very pleasant surprise to kickoff the non-quarantined LPL Summer offering.

LGD started off the season with a sound victory of their own against Team eStar, and look to remain undefeated if they can hand V5 their first loss of the season. And oddly enough, Victory Five is a heavy underdog for being 2-0, coming in as a +190 (per Bovada) while laying -160 on the +1.5 round total. LGD stands pat at -280 on the moneyline and +120 on a sweep.

Team Comparisons & Points of Interest

At the same time Victory Five has come out hot, their modest stat line of 1.73 kill-death ratio suggests reason for hesitation in overinvestment against an LGD squad notorious for putting up big points in wins. On the contrary, V5 has a very stout showing thus far in regards to Tower control, with 9.0 killed to 4.0 lost (2nd LPL, although early).

LGD has yet to have more than one match worth of opportunity to prove themselves sturdy in any stat category, as a kill-death ratio of 1.38 can certainly be improved upon. LGD is only a couple months beyond what was a 0.83 K:D ratio for the Spring Split, as well as missing the playoffs entirely and finishing just two places ahead of then-winless Victory Five (the irony in namesake).

LGD’s starting five has an adjusted starting five from last season, adding mid-laner xiye and top-laner Langx, while Attack Damage Carry Kramer is off to a 7.8 K:D ratio. V5’s newcomer SamD has come in strong over two matches touting a 6.2 K:D, fourth-best in LPL currently.

Pick: Victory Five ML (+195 @ Bovada)

While I understand the skepticism of giving much love to a team merely weeks removed from an 0-16 season. But the fact of the matter is we still know little of this LGD team heading into Summer beyond an impressive win over eStar, besides the 5-11 Spring Split record netting them 15th in the standings (15-23 Win/Loss).

Victory Five has that much more spoken for them in terms of recency value, and I know this may sound bullish, but show me a heavy dog line like this with lopsided reasoning and I’m all about it.
