Patriots are expected to sign Marqise Lee
It has not been a very fruitful off-season for the New England Patriots. They lost Tom Brady to Tampa Bay and they traded Rob Gronkowski to join Brady after he decided to end his one-year retirement.
The Patriots offense lacks playmakers to be kind and they have needs at every skill position from wide receiver to tight end and of course, quarterback. On Thursday, they reportedly added to their offense by coming to an agreement on a one-year deal with Marqise Lee, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Lee is just 28 and was released by Jacksonville on April 20. But he has battled injuries, playing in just six games last season with three catches for 18 yards. He signed a four-year deal for $34 million ($16.5 guaranteed) in March of 2018. He wound up missing that season due suffering a torn ACL, MCL and PCL in his left knee in preseason of that year.
Lee did have some success in 2017 and 2016 with the Jaguars. That's why he wound up signing a pretty big deal. Lee caught 63 passes for 851 yards with three TDs in 2016 and 56 receptions for 702 yards and three scores in 2017.
If he's healthy, he could start with veteran Julian Edelman in the slot and second-year receiver N'Keal Harry as a potential starter. The Pats also have veteran Momahem Sanu and just signed Damiere Byrd, a speedster who played with Arizona last season.
